Lately I've been hearing a lot of teachings on Lots wife. Many of us know the story of Sodom and Gomorrah being destroyed because these two cities were so enthralled with sin. God had warned Abraham and Lot of this destruction forthcoming. No one chose to listen to Lot about the wretched news and so at last, the angels of the Lord forced Lot, his wife and his two daughters out of the city, The angles ordered, "Run for your lives! And don't look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!" (Genesis 19:17)
You see, the Lord had promised good to them. He had promised them a future. All they had to do was have faith and trust in the Lord and His promises. "Run for your lives! And don't look back ..." Unfortunately Lot's wife did not have enough faith in God to trust Him because we know she looked back and she instantly was turned into a pillar of salt. She could not trust in the promises of God in the worse possible moment in her life.
Do we have trouble doing that ourselves? In our worse moments it's so easy to look back and say it would be so much easier if God would just let me do things the way I think would be best. Or it sure would be easier if I didn't have to trust Him for any answers and I could just go on with knowing what I know.
As Christians we are called to a higher standard of faith as non-believers. We are called to walk by faith and not by sight. Walk in faith and not in fear. Look forward in the promises of God and not look back.
How can you commit to looking forward in your walk with God today forgetting the past and not looking back? Ask God to help you turn from the past and stay focused on the future He has for you.
